WISTERIA

"Wisteria" is a 2D platformer where the player must navigate the maze like root system of a tree while avoiding thorns and other hazards to make it to the trunk of the tree for nourishment.

Roles and Responsibilities

Level Design:

  • Responsible for the layout and placement of hazards in levels

System Design:

  • Responsible for tuning movement and dash mechanic to work seamlessly with the level design

Design Story

Purpose & Goal:

Wisteria was made as an entry for the Global Game Jam 2023 event with the theme "Roots".

Concept:

  • Wisteria was conceptualised by our lead artist for the project because of her love for the demon slayer anime (hence the name - wisteria)

Development:

  • This is the first time I had to think on the fly while designing a game and not give overwhelming amount of thought when conceptualising mechanics

Post Development:

  • It was a long 3 days but we managed to just squeeze out the game by the deadline, huge thanks to our Lead Programmer who toiled long hours in the night polishing the game.
